Safety Performance Comparison Tests
When all passengers cars sold in Japan fulfill government safety regulations braking performance for avoiding accidents and features which reduce injury at the time of impact differ from vehicle to vehicle. This section provides the results of tests which compare such safety features.

Candidates for testing in the March 2005 New Car Assessment were selected from among the top-selling automobiles in the market, with this year's edition containing the results of safety tests performed on the 21 models shown below.

This brings to 91 the total number of passenger car models given at overall evaluation of collision safety performance based on the results of the full-wrap frontal collision, offset frontal collision, and side collision tests. This covers roughly 80% of the new cars sold on the domestic market.
