New Car Assessment Japan

Death toll caused by traffic accidents in 2004 was even lower than that of 2003, less than 7,500, however, number of injuries reached about 1,180,000. This and the increased number of accidents show us we are still in a severe state. It receives such a state and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and the National Agency for Automotive Safety & Victim's Aid has performed testing and evaluated the safety of automobiles currently on the market, as one of the safe measures. The results of these tests are publicly released under the title New Car Assessment Japan.

The objective of New Car Assessment Japan is to increase the use of safe automobiles by providing an environment in which users can easily select such vehicles. This also promotes the development of safer vehicles by automobile manufacturers.

Pedestrian head protection performance test started in 2003 in order to evaluate the shock absorbing performance of cars in the case of a collision between a pedestrian and a car. The results of the tests are also included in New Car Assessment Japan 2005.

The New Car Assessment Japan will also include child seat safety performance comparison tests. (frontal collision usability)

We hope that this document will prove to be a valuable resource to consumers.
